After the successful hackathon, 10 gifted students were chosen to advance the winning playground concepts for the Cairo Innovation Fair. They spent an intensive week refining their vision at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT).
The ambitious young designers visited the wetland park site to gather on-location measurements and test materials firsthand. With guidance from architecture students, they incorporated expert feedback to iterate their plans for accessibility, safety, durability and interaction with nature. Thoughtful placement of play elements encouraged exploration and environmental connection.
Leveraging their creativity, the students highlighted innovative features including imaginative play structures made from recycled tires and pipes, water reuse systems that irrigate ornamental gardens, edible plants, and accessible ramps and equipment. Their immersive presentation brought the sustainable vision to life.
Through intense collaboration, problem-solving, model making, and attention to detail, they refined the designs down to the last swing set, mosaic mural, and butterfly garden. The cohesive final vision was forward-thinking yet achievable.
The gifted designers' brilliant concepts and skilled presentation earned the top Children's Award at the 2023 Cairo Innovation Fair, chosen from dozens of youth projects nationwide. Their playground was also selected to represent Egypt at the UN Environment's Golden Cubes global sustainable design competition.
These 10 talented Egyptian students exemplified youth passion and ingenuity. Their accomplishment motivates young people everywhere to engineer creative solutions for sustainability. Their park designs will directly enhance their local community while inspiring their generation worldwide.
